TMJ Disorder, or Temporomandibular Joint disorder, often causes discomfort and is accompanied by a clicking noise. The cause of this clicking is from within the temporomandibular joint that connects the lower jaw and the temporal bone.

As you move your lower jaw whenever you eat or talk, this can be extremely uncomfortable and bothersome.

There are several things that lead to this clicking in the jaw. While the actual causes of this disorder are unclear, research has shown this problem can be treated different ways, depending on your history with this condition.

• It could be the joint itself, or the muscles used to move your lower jaw.
• This may have stemmed from a complication of a previous neck or head injury, although this cause may only be a symptom for a short duration of time.
• This could be a complication from stress and teeth clenching and grinding
