Periodontal (Gum) Treatments
Periodontal treatment involves containing any infection developed in your mouth, through proper treatments:
Periodontal Scaling: The process removes or eliminates the dental plaque, its products, and calculus – which cause inflammation.
Root Planning: Removes dental plaque and tartar, which house bacteria that release toxins which cause inflammation to the gum tissue and surrounding bone.
Gum Laser Treatment: A minimally-invasive treatment used to remove harmful bacteria and diseased tissue from the gum pocket by passing a laser light between the gum and tooth.
Your dentist may prescribe antibiotics to fight existing infections. Surgery is often required for severe cases periodontal disease to properly remove deep infections that require treatments beyond simple scaling. During your exam your dentist will explain to your treatment options and what can be done to prevent a return of that infection.
After we have stopped the infection and closed up any potential areas where bacteria can enter your body, we will continue to examine your gum health at every 6-month check-up. We will use our experience to help prevent future complications with your teeth. Also, our dental assistants will also review your brushing habits and offer ways you can better clean your teeth between check-ups, to prevent unnecessary dental plaque build up.
